Celebrating the People Behind the Mission

Cops, Kids & Toys (CKT) proudly hosted its Annual Volunteer Luncheon on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The event brought together the dedicated volunteers and community partners who make CKT’s work possible year after year.

This year’s luncheon was generously hosted by the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1253 in Ithaca , who not only provided a warm and welcoming space, but also served a delicious lunch for attendees. Their continued support of CKT’s mission was further demonstrated through a generous donation, presented by Steven Angel, reinforcing the strong community spirit that drives this organization forward.

Honoring Extraordinary Service

A highlight of the afternoon was CKT President Bill Apgar's presentation of the 2025 George Sutfin Award to Brian Goodell. This award recognizes an individual who demonstrates exceptional dedication and service to CKT’s mission.

Brian’s commitment, reliability, and willingness to go above and beyond have made a meaningful impact on the organization and the families it serves. His contributions reflect the very best of what CKT stands for.

The George Sutfin Award was established by CKT to honor the memory of George Sutfin, a devoted volunteer and member of the Ithaca Eagles whose legacy continues to inspire service and generosity throughout the community.

A Unified Effort Across Agencies

CKT’s impact would not be possible without the collaboration of law enforcement agencies across Tompkins County. Representatives from the following agencies attended the luncheon:

What a day we had on Saturday!

Thanks to the incredible support of this community, the 2nd Annual Cops, Kids & Toys Walk-A-Thon at The Shops at Ithaca Mall was a huge success. We are so grateful to everyone who walked, donated, cheered, and showed up!

This event is only possible because of the people who believe in what we do. Your time, energy, and generosity go directly toward providing holiday gifts for kids in Tompkins County who need them most. That's the whole point, and you delivered.

A huge thank you to the Chrome Divas of Ithaca for co-producing this event with our CKT volunteers and bringing their trademark heart and hustle to everything they do.

Special thanks to DJ Rocket Morton for keeping the energy going all morning with fun music. And sincere thanks to our volunteers, our law enforcement partners, and every team, individual, and family who came out to walk with us.

The Easter Egg Hunt, face painting, raffles, and car seat safety station made it a real community celebration, and that doesn't happen without all of you. Supporting early literacy and stronger families across Tompkins County

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Cops, Kids & Toys was proud to present a check to the Family Reading Partnership in support its important work and to assist with some unforeseen expenses as it continues to serve local children and families.

Since 1997, Family Reading Partnership has helped Tompkins County families with young children experience the joy of books and read-aloud time as an everyday part of life.

Family Reading Partnership provides programs and materials that encourage parents and caregivers to engage with infants and young children through reading, play, songs, and conversation, all as building blocks for literacy. It works to create a culture of literacy in the community by weaving books and reading encouragement into the networks and services that already reach local families. Their programs are designed especially for families with infants and young children in Tompkins County, helping children connect with books early and often.

Their impact is rooted in a simple but powerful idea. When children grow up with books as part of everyday life, families are strengthened and young learners are better prepared to thrive. Family Reading Partnership describes its work as creating a culture of literacy, one book, one family, and one community at a time.

This event supports Cops, Kids & Toys' year-round work that culminates in our holiday gift campaign to provide holiday toys to Tompkins County children in need. Every registration, team fundraiser, and donation helps us show up for families when it matters most.

Cornell Athletics Teams Up with Cops, Kids & Toys for December Food Drive

Come to the Game, Bring Shelf-Stable Food to Donate!

Cornell University Athletics is rallying fans this December to support neighbors across Tompkins County who are experiencing food insecurity. At four home games this month, fans are invited to bring shelf-stable food items to help fill local food pantries during a time of year when demand spikes and donations often drop.

Cops, Kids & Toys is partnering with Cornell Athletics to make sure every donation reaches families who need it most. While admission and the spirit of cheering on Big Red athletes are reason enough to attend, these games also offer an easy way to give back. If you can, toss a few canned or boxed items in your bag before heading to the arena. Every contribution helps.

What to Bring

Shelf-stable, unopened items. Examples: canned vegetables and fruit, pasta, rice, peanut butter, soup, beans, cereal, boxed meals, baby food, and other nonperishables.

Give Joy This Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is the perfect time to make a difference right here in Tompkins County — and Cops, Kids & Toys needs your help to make the holidays brighter for local children in need.

Cops, Kids & Toys began in the early 1980s when two Ithaca City Police officers were moved to provide holiday toys to a few children and families in need. Today, our volunteers come from every law enforcement agency in Tompkins County, the Tompkins County Probation Department, numerous local businesses, and caring community members just like you.

Each year, families share their children’s wish lists, and our volunteers select toys and gifts to match those requests. Thanks to our generous community, we’re often able to fill those wishes with donated toys — but your cash donations play a critical role, too.

Why your donation matters:

Sometimes, we need to purchase gifts to fill in gaps — whether that’s age-appropriate items for older kids, specific requests, or categories we simply don’t receive enough donations for. Your financial support helps us ensure that every child receives something special.

No donation is too small to put a smile on a child’s face. Even a few dollars can help us buy that one missing toy or book to complete a gift bundle.

And if you’d like to make an even greater impact, consider becoming a monthly donor. A small recurring gift helps us plan ahead and reach more children each holiday season.

Cops, Kids & Toys Food Drive Extended into December

The need in Tompkins County doesn’t end when the holidays arrive.

While many families look forward to warm meals and full tables, too many of our neighbors are still struggling to keep food in the house. That’s why Cornell University and Cops, Kids & Toys have extended the community food drive starting December 2 through gift pick-up days in December.

We’re collecting non-perishable food items at the CKT HQ at The Shops at Ithaca Mall (near the food court and Zocalo’s). Donations will be delivered directly to local food banks and pantries. Monetary contributions will be used to purchase additional food for families who need it most.

What We’re Collecting:

Canned vegetables and fruit
Canned soups and stews
Pasta, rice, and boxed meals
Peanut butter and shelf-stable meats and other proteins
Baby food and formula
Breakfast items like cereal and oatmeal
Toiletries (toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, diapers, feminine products, incontinence products, etc.)
Household supplies (toilet paper, tissues, cleaning products, etc.)
Pet food

Out shopping on Black Friday? Pick up a few extra toys and bring them with you on Saturday to help us fill the truck! Every little bit helps — from board games and books to sports gear and stuffed animals, your donation makes a difference.

Cops, Kids & Toys is teaming up once again to support our Tompkins County neighbors in need. We're extending collection of food and essential household items to help families and individuals bridge the gap during this difficult time.

COLLECTING DONATIONS: Wednesday - Saturday, Nov. 5-8 AND Nov. 12-15, 9 am – 3 pm daily

WHERE: Cops, Kids & Toys HQ inside The Shops at Ithaca Mall (across from Zocalo’s, near the food court)

WHAT TO DONATE: We’re accepting donations of:

Pet food – because our furry friends are family too.

From November 1 through December 1 , Cops, Kids & Toys invites the community to help spread holiday joy by donating new, unwrapped toys for children in need across Tompkins County.

Donation bins are now available at dozens of local businesses, community centers, and police departments throughout the county — from Lansing to Dryden, Groton to Trumansburg, and Downtown Ithaca to East Hill .

2025 Holiday Gift Applications open Oct. 1

Cops, Kids and Toys is a holiday gift program serves children in Tompkins County, New York. Families with children in need are encouraged to apply between October 1 and December 1, 2025. The application form is now live!

All applications are reviewed by Cops, Kids, and Toys Inc. and need is verified by each child's school district. All applications will be screened to ensure each child is being served by only one organization providing holiday gifts. Should the application information provided be false or misleading, Cops, Kids and Toys Inc. reserves the right to deny the application without notification.

We regret that we are not able to help children living in other surrounding counties or other areas of the United States of America. We apologize in advance if your child's school will not work with Cops, Kids and Toys to obtain the verification necessary to ensure that children are only being served by one organization. It is important to Cops, Kids & Toys that each application is treated with equity, and we are unable to accept applications that are not verified. All applications and children will need verification to have their application accepted for 2025.

Just a reminder: If you want to receive gifts for your children from Cops, Kids and Toys, please do not sign up for similar assistance from other organizations.

The deadline for applications is December 1, 2025. Late applications will not be accepted.

Thanks to your continued support and dedication, this first-ever event was a huge success!

WE are so incredibly grateful for all of you. Your willingness, time, talent, hard work, positive energy, and enthusiasm of support allows us to continue to make a positive impact in our communities. WE are very fortunate to have so many supportive businesses/organizations and individuals alongside us. Thank you for believing in our missions and joining us to help us achieve our goals.

We were able to raise a total of $6685.00 to donate to the Cops, Kids and Toys to provide gifts for the kids during the holidays and the Cayuga Cancer Center to provide assistance to cancer patients and their families. Incredible for our very first 5K Walk-A-Thon.

Proceeds from the walk-a-thon will help Cops, Kids & Toys provide holiday gifts for kids in Tompkins County AND provide funds to Cayuga Cancer Center and their team of professional who support the needs of cancer patients and their families with services from diagnosis and treatment, to discharge and follow-up at home.

It's a wrap! What an outpouring of generosity!

A big thank you to everyone who was able to come out and contribute to our Supply Drive for Western North Carolina. We have a ton of physical donations that we are going to pack on pallets. With your donations we are purchasing many more pallets of essentials to send down with the tractor trail when it arrives. Your generosity will save lives and help rebuild North Carolina from the disaster.

Cops, Kids and Toys is a holiday gift program serves children in Tompkins County, New York. Families with children in need are encouraged to apply well in advance of the December 1, 2024, deadline on this page.

We regret that we are not able to help children living in other surrounding counties or other areas of the United States of America. We apologize in advance if your child's school will not work with Cops, Kids and Toys to obtain the verification necessary to ensure that children are only being served by one organization. It is important to Cops, Kids & Toys that each application is treated with equity, and we are unable to accept applications that are not verified. ALL applications and ALL children will need verification to have the application accepted for 2024. Verification from last year is not valid.

If you want to receive gifts for your children from Cops, Kids and Toys, please do not sign up for similar assistance from other organizations.

2024 Toy donation bin locations

Starting about November 1, 2024, members of the public are invited to donate new toys to be given to kids in need. Toy donation bins will be located as detailed below. They will be picked up around December 1.

After December 1, toy donations can be brought directly to the Toy Room location at the Shops of Ithaca Mall during open hours, and at the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, Cayuga Heights Police Department, Cornell Police Department, Ithaca College Police Department, or the Probation Department.

Yarn donations needed!

The Pew Knitters are a caring group of women who hand knit and crochet hats, mittens, scarves, blankets, and slippers for the children we serve during the holidays. They are requesting yarn donations so that they start their knitting and crocheting for 2024. If you have yarn you would like to donate for this purpose, please call Sis at 607-272-6806. Your donations are greatly appreciated! Monetary gifts to offset the cost of yarn are welcome, too.

Yarn donations also can be dropped off at the Tompkins County Probation Department. Sis has asked for any and all colors of yarn (dark, light and pastels). The ladies make handmade items for all age groups and genders. Thank you for your generosity!

Cops, Kids & Toys is so much more than toys

Cops, Kids & Toys helps children in Tompkins County, NY, in many meaningful ways, including providing and properly installing car seats. Tyler Mix from the Tompkins County Probation Department and a Cops, Kids & Toys board member is one of only a handful of people in Tompkins County who has been certified as a Car Seat Technician. This means that Tyler has received specialized training on how to properly install car seats.

Cops, Kids & Toys works with several community agencies providing car seats for families who may not be on public assistance but still cannot afford a car seat for their children (there is a separate program for families on public assistance). Southside Community Center contacted Cops, Kids & Toys asking for help in obtaining extra car seats so that they could safely transport children in their care. On February 14, 2023, Cops, Kids & Toys, the Probation Department of Tompkins County, and the Ithaca Police Department delivered two car seats to Southside Community Center to help them transport children safely. This is just one of the many ways Cops, Kids & Toys gives back to the children and community of Tompkins County.
